The Tutte polynomial for homeomorphism classes of graphs
We study a polynomial which contains, as special cases, the Tutte polynomials of all members of a given homeomorphism class of graphs. We further show that this polynomial can be directly derived from the chain polynomial introduced in [1]. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

In this note, we describe a construction that leads to families of graphs whose critical groups are cyclic. For some of these families we are able to give a formula for the number of spanning trees of the graph, which then determines the group exactly.

Let M be a compact manifold, possibly with boundary. We show that the group of homeomorphisms of M has the automatic continuity property : any homomorphism from Homeo(M) to any separable group is necessarily continuous. This answers a question of C.
